Mudasir Kamran committed suicide, reiterates City Police

The City Police has maintained that Mudasir Kamran, the PHD student of EFLU from Kashmir, committed suicide.

Addressing a press conference here DCP East Zone Jaya Laxmi gave a detailed account of the case. He said on March 2, the police received a joint complaint from the student organizations of EFLU led by N Satish (TSA) wherein he stated that Muddasir Kamran has committed suicide due to continuous harassment by Prof Harish Kumar Vijra, Proctor, EFL University. Mudasir Kamram was reported called a “Mentally disorder Rascal” by the Proctor and on March 1 night he has sent him to Police Station for a petty reason upon a complaint of Vasim Salim Tamboli, another Ph.D student (ELE).

It was alleged that the Proctor instead of conducting an enquiry into the issue unilaterally took the decision to send him to Police Station without informing neither to Registrar nor to the Vice Chancellor. The students with the help of Dean Campus Development Prof Vedasharan brought Mudasir from Police Station and counseled Mudasir along with other friends. They further stated that Mudasir suffered the humiliation silently and was found dead in his room by hanging to the ceiling fan with a plastic rope.

Giving the background, the DCP said that Mudasir Kamran and Vasim Salim Tamboli were close friends and roommates. On examination of Vasim it was revealed that the deceased Mudasir had made several physical advancements by touching his body, kissing, hugging etc. Over which Vasim got annoyed and shifted to another room. However, Mudasir was very possessive of Vasim and used to say that he was in love with Vasim and he cannot survive in the campus without Vasim.

The deceased Mudasir used to assault Vasim demanding him to stay with him only and not to mingle with others. Three or Four times he has assaulted Vasim over which he has submitted representations to the Dean Hostels, Dean Ph.D and Proctor. The petitions of Vasim were under examination and Proctor issued memorandum and warning letter to Mudasir in connection with the petitions submitted by Vasim Tamboli.

On March 1, in the late evening Mudasir followed Vasim wherever he went near F-wing hostel. Mudasir picked up quarrel with Vasim, assaulted Vasim and tried to throttle him. Meanwhile Gopal and Deepesh, students of EFLU along with others, interfered and separated them. Later, Vasim along with students Gopal and Deepesh came to the Police Station and lodged a complaint at about 10.30 PM. Meanwhile Prof. Vijra, Prof. Maya Pandit and Prof. Chanchala Naik also reached the Police Station.

Based on the above complaint, the on duty Sub-Inspector A.Madhu Sudhan Reddy proceeded brought Mudasir to Police Station for enquiry. In the presence of Vasim, Gopal, Deepesh the Sub-Inspector advised and counseled Mudasir. Meanwhile, the students of EFLU namely D Kotesh, P Sandeep, G Seetharam, H Krishna, Satish along with Prof. Vedasharan, Dean Campus Development came to Police Station and requested the sub-inspector to hand over Mudasir to them and assured that the issue will be resolved in the University.

In this regard Prof. Vedasharan along with Satish gave an undertaking stating that they will take responsibility of Mudasir and arrange protection to Vasim. At this time Vasim stated that he should not be assaulted again by Mudasir. They left the Police Station at about 11.45 PM on March 1.

The DCP said that presence of deceased in the Police Station on March 1 was between 11.10 PM to 11.45 PM, that to in the presence of other students and Prof. Vedasharan.

The students of EFLU namely D Kotesh, P Sandeep, G Seetharam, H Krishna and Satish were monitoring and observing the movements of deceased Mudasir ever since he was brought from Police Station and kept with them for the night of March 1 and during the day on March 2 they are observing his movements and at about 9.20 PM H Krishan, a close friend of him went to his room and knocked the door. When there was no response he peeped inside through the window and found Mudasir hanging to the ceiling fan.

Immediately he alerted security persons and mess workers and with the help of Rangaiah, Kanakaiah (Security guards), Raju , Naresh, Chinna Ramulu and other students broke open the door of Room No. D-5 and took the deceased to Andhra Mahila Sabha Hospital at Nallakunta in the Ambulance bearing No. AP 10W 4318 driven by driver Mohd. Aqeel where in the doctors opined that he is brought dead.

Post Mortem Examination was conducted and the body was handed over to his cousin Shammi Malik for final rites, the DCP said. (INN)
