Mumbai, March 12: Bus travel will be costlier in Maharashtra.
Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has decided to increase its passenger fares from midnight.
“Due to steep rise in the cost of diesel, the State Transport Authority (STA) has permitted Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) to increase its passenger fares from today midnight,” MSRTC PRO Mukund Dhus said.
On an average the fare hike turns out to be 7.69 per cent, he said. Karnataka, Kerala and other state transport undertakings have already increased their fares from March 3, he added.
MSRTC is incurring a daily loss of Rs 36 lakh due to the diesel price hike and this has forced MSRTC to increase its passenger fares, he said.
MSRTC had not raised its fares since June 2008 even after the hike in the cost of diesel, tyre-tubes, chassis, spare parts, Dhus said.
