Mr. K. Roshaiah, former CM of AP and present Governor of Tamil Nadu met Ms. Sonia Gandhi and apprised her of the political situation in Telangana in 2009 when he was the CM in AP.
Congress High Command had announced that it would consult CM and Congress President of AP. It commissioned Mr. Roshaiah along with the present CM Mr. Kiran Kumar Reddy.
When Congress had made an announcement on 9th December 2009 that the process of formation of Telangana would be initiated at that time Mr. K. Roshaiah was CM of AP.
Ms. Sonia Gandhi enquired the details of that period from Mr. Roshaiah. Mr. Roshaiah told her that due to fast unto death of TRS President Mr. K. Chandrasekhara Rao, the political situation in AP had become tense.
As CM of A.P. Mr. Roshaiah had convened an all party meeting on 7th December 2009 at Secretariat. In this meeting, all the parties had agreed to support Telangana issue if a resolution is moved in the Assembly for the formation of Telangana state. He had already communicated the proceedings of this meeting to Congress High Command. Two days after this meeting (i.e. on 9th December 2009) the then Home Minister, Mr. P. Chidambaram had made a statement in the Parliament that the process of formation of separate Telangana state would be initiated soon.
He had also advised him to pass a resolution to that effect in A.P. Assembly. The situation had changed by the time he reached Hyderabad from New Delhi. All the MLA’s belonging to Seema Andhra Region had tendered their resignations due to which he could not move a resolution in the A.P. Assembly.
Mr. Roshaiah told Ms. Sonia Gandhi to take a decision on Telangana as early as possible. Congress Party in the state is facing many problems. Any delay in taking decision on Telangana would aggravate its problems.
