Chancellor of Maulana Azad National Urdu University, Mr. Zafar Sareshwala clarified that he would concentrate on reviewing the irregularities committed by Urdu University and also for the improvement of quality education. He further told that as Chancellor of the University, he wants to see it into a successful university at all levels. He said that he is not satisfied with the present state of Urdu University.
In a special interview given to Siasat Urdu Daily, Mr. Zafar Sareshwala told that he has received many complaints from various corners about irregularities in Urdu University. He assured that he would review all these irregularities and contact Ministry of HRD.
He also told that Urdu University claims to have admitted 1.65 lakh students but only 65000 students are on rolls. There is no information about the attendance and education of remaining one lakh students. In this manner, he considers Urdu University as an incomplete institution. He wants to improve the present infrastructure and the standard of education so that Urdu University should also follow the path of progress like other central Universities. He told that he is consulting educational and he would finalize the course of action after receiving their opinions. He informed that he received many complaints about the officials of Urdu University. He is making an attempt to find out solutions. He received complaints from teaching and non-teaching staff on various issues. Minority leaders of Telangana and various organizations also made representations to him. He said that he would seek report from university officials. He informed that he signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate with other international Universities. This will be implemented soon. In this way, there will be an expansion in the area of operation of Operation of Urdu University.
He further informed that non-teaching staff of Urdu University had launched strike to fulfill their demands. He negotiated with them directly and assured them justice. The strike was called off. Mr. Zafar Sareshwala assured that full justice would be done to teaching and non-teaching staff and no injustice would be tolerated from any corner. He admitted that due to non-recognition of Urdu University degrees, the future of the students is dark. He wants that the degrees of the University should get recognition so that the graduates of this university could get admissions in Higher Courses and Jobs.
In response to a question, Mr. Sareshwala told that he is not bothered about his powers as Chancellor of University. He said that if there is a strong will, reformation could be made even without powers. He informed that he has received representations for instituting CBI enquiry. He is reviewing this proposal. He categorically said that as Chancellor of Urdu University he can’t remain as a silent spectator on the irregularities and violation of rules and regulations. He made it clear that he has not accepted this position as a fulfillment of his greed but he has occupied this post for its Development. He also said that eradication of educational backwardness of Minorities is his top priority and he wants to do it though the Urdu University. He made it clear that he knows how to improve the functioning of the university and to reform it. If need be, he would approach the Ministry of Human Resource Development and also would make a representation to Prime Minister Modi. He said that his top priority is to fulfill the aims and objectives of the university. All the affairs of the University should bed discharged as per rules. Mr. Sareshwalla said that the NRIs are very much worried about the education of their children. If Urdu University extends its area of operation, the problem of education of the Indians would be resolved.
