Hyderabad: Govt. issued G.O.Rt 229 yesterday extending the term of office of Mr. Syed Omer Jaleel, IAS as Competent Authority of Muslim Wakf Board . His term had extended on 18th October. Govt. has extended his term up to 11th December 2016 which is the last for constituting Wakf Board. It may be mentioned that initially, Mr. Omer Jaleel was appointed as Chief Authority of Wakf Board on 19th October, 2015. He was given extension for the second time on 14th May 2016. At present, Mr. Omer Jaleel is occupying three important positions. He is Secretary of the Dept. of Minorities Welfare, Director, Dept. of Minorities Welfare and Competent Authority of Wakf Board.
It is very interesting to note that Mr. Omer Jaleel made an attempt to give an impression that he would not accept any position in Wakf Board but it is said that the local political party forced him to get extension so that he could function as election authority at the formation of Wakf Board.
His extension has been granted after taking legal opinion. As per the Wakf Act, no Special Officer or Competent Authority could be appointed for more than a year. High Court of Hyderabad had given time to Govt. of Telangana for constituting Wakf Board within three months in its judgment pronounced on 12th September.
