Mr. Jalaluddin Akbar appointed as Director of Minorities Welfare Dept.

Govt. of Telangana appointed Mr. Mohammed Jalaluddin Akbar, IFS, Conservator of Forests (Production) as Director of the Dept. of Minorities Welfare. He will also hold the additional charge of Special Officer of Telangana State Wakf Board. Dr. Rajiv Sharma, IAS, Chief Secretary, Govt. of Telangana issued G.O.Rt. 298 yesterday.

It may be noted that on 20th June orders were issued for the appointment of Mr. Akbar but due to some technical hitch, another G.O. was issued on 23rd June in which the tenure of office of the Special Officer was fixed at 6 months whereas in the earlier G.O. it was 1 year. According to Wakf Act, no special officer can be appointed for more than 6 months. After the expiry of the term of Mr. Shaik Mohammed Iqbal, IPS as Special Officer of Wakf Board, this post was vacant. Mr. Iqbal is working as Commissioner of Minorities Welfare of Govt. of A.P. With the appointment of Mr. Akbar, it is expected that the functioning of the Dept. will improve.
