MPs urge Krishna to help Tri-Valley students

Hyderabad, March 18: Parliamentarians from Andhra Pradesh including Congress and TDP leaders led by Petroleum Minister S Jaipal Reddy on Thursday called on External Affairs minister SM Krishna and appealed him to take immediate steps to help the students from the state who were duped by the Tri Valley University in US.

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) MPs raised the Tri Valley issue during the debate on external affairs in the Lok Sabha. Though, Krishna replied to their queries, the members were not satisfied.

Later, TDP MPs along with Congress MPs called on Krishna. They explained to the minister that innocent students from had been cheated by the University and also jailed.

They urged him to speak to the US president Barack Obama and US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and resolve the issue. They also wanted the minister to send a team from India to study the problems being faced by the students.

Speaking to mediapersons later, Petroleum Minister Jaipal Reddy said that Krishna had responded positively and assured them that he would solve the problem. Reddy also said that these students were not criminals and it was not right to radio-tag them.

However, Krishna assured the delegation that a special diplomat would be entrusted with the job of solving the problems of students from the sham university.
