MP’s appeal on Telangana

Hyderabad, March 25: Congress MP G. Vivekanand has appealed to the party high command to take steps for formation of separate Telangana and protect the interests of the party in the region.

In a letter addressed to AIC general secretary AP affairs in-charge Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mr. Vivek said there was a strong feeling among the people that the process of a separate State was stopped due to resignations of Seemandhra MPs and it was the duty of the Telangana MPs to resign in case a new State was to be formed. “There is tremendous pressure on us to ensure implementation of the promise made in the manifesto,” he said. The Congress MP said denial of separate State after the 1969 agitation claiming 400 lives had manifested in the form of extremism. Currently, there was no extremism in the region at present, but it was likely to resurface if the Telangana State was not formed as people strongly feel that their jobs, self-respect and water was being exploited by the Seemandhra people.

He faulted the Justice Srikrishna Committee’s report claiming that there were several mistakes in the report in relation to GDDP growth, electricity, water, education and other areas. Nothing short of separate Telangana would satisfy the aspirations of the people.
