MPJ demands R Mishra panel report on minority welfare

Movement For Peace and Justice (MPJ) has demanded the Central government to implement Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission recommendations to uplift the Muslim community people in the country.

Speaking to the media persons here on Sunday, MPJ president Hamid Mohd Khan said that the Central government has constituted the National Commission for religious and linguistic Minorities in 2005 called ‘Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission’ and it has submitted its report to the government in October 2007. According to the commission, the Muslims were lagging behind other religious communities in the areas of literacy and education, industrial promotion and economic pursuits. They lack technical and vocational education as well as training in trades in demand, it said and made certain recommendations. All secular political parties have welcomed the recommendations, he added. The committee has recommended provision of 15 percent reservation in education and employment to all minorities, out of which 10 percent for Muslims and remaining five percent to other minorities.

Khan lamented that though the Central government has placed the report in Parliament on the last day of the winter session in 2009, since then after lapse of five years of it submission, it has failed to take any action so far.

He demanded the Central government to provide reservation to the Muslim communities by amending the Constitution instead of providing sub-quota in OBC reservations.

Khan demanded the Central government to provide reservation in Parliament and the Assembly seats on par with SC and ST in the country. He said that they would organize protest programmes from July 8 at district, Mandal and village level across the state to mount pressure on the Central government to implement Justice Ranganath Mishra Commission recommendations.

MPJ general secretary Khaja Moinuddin and vice president Saleem Al Hindi were also present. (NSS)
