Tehran, August 13: A group of Iranian lawmakers investigating the situation of detainees arrested during the post-election unrest have visited Tehran’s Evin prison.
The members of the Majlis (Parliament) special committee held talks with the detainees as part of their probe into alleged mistreatment reports on Wednesday.
The lawmakers said that the detainees’ complaints were mainly related to a temporary detention center named Kahrizak, where they were kept before being sent to the Evin prison.
Kahrizak detention center was shut down upon an order by the Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.
Alaeddin Boroujerdi, the Head of Iran’s Parliamentary Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, who is also a member of the fact-finding committee said that there is a common point in the remarks of all the detainees and that is the fact that “all prisoners are satisfied with their situation in the Evin prison”.
Boroujerdi noted that the detainees’ situation in the temporary detention centers should be investigated.
