MP by-polls: Cong alleges irregularities in voter lists

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Ahead of the Assembly by-polls in Mungaoli and Kolaras, the Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee alleged that there were massive discrepancies in the updated voter lists.

“Mungaoli and Kolaras will undergo voting on 24 February. Updated voter list of both places shows massive discrepancies. We found that there are several polling booths in both places where a single voter has been registered multiple times,” Arun Yadav, the state Congress President told media here.

The Congress leader further said that the state Election Commission didn’t take any action on the matter.

“We had complained about it to MP State Election Commission three days ago but no action has been taken yet,” added Yadav.

Both Mungaoli and Kolaras seats that are going to polls on February 24 are part of Guna Lok Sabha seat, which is represented by Congress leader Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia.

The by-elections to both the assembly seats have been necessitated by the demise of sitting Congress legislators Mahendra Singh Kalukheda (Mungaoli) and Ram Singh Yadav (Kolaras).

In Mungaoli, the contest is between Congress candidate Brajendra Singh Yadav and Bhai Sahab Yadav of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while in Kolaras the battle is between Congress’ Mahendra Yadav and former MLA and BJP candidate Devendra Jain. (ANI)
