MP not injured while shifting to hospital: AP Minister

Vijayawada, December 19: Vijayawada Congress Lok Sabha Member Lagadapati Rajagopal who was shifted to government general hospital here this morning after his five-day fast-unto-death was broken by huge armed contigent of greyhound police at the Swaraj Maidan, was not hurt in the meele, Andhra Pradesh Animal Husbandary Minister K Parthasarathy said.

Talking to a private satellite channel at the government general hospital, Mr Parthasarathy said ”I came to the hospital to see Mr Rajagopal but he is sleeping now…. I was toldby his wife and family members that he was not injured….” He said doctors attending the MP at a special ward in Block-3 in the hospital said his health condition was deteriorating as his blood test report confirmed to this effect.

In view of this, the state government had decided to shift him from the fasting venue, the minister said, adding Chief Minister K Rosaiah also asked him to go to Vijayawada last night to oversee the health condition of the MP.

Mr Parathasarathy also said the MP had not told the doctors so far that he was willing to go to NIMs in Hyderabad for better treatement.

The Minister said he also requested TDP Mylavaram MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao and former Mayor Anuradha to give up their seven-day fast.

The MLA and the former mayor were continuing their fast in the hospital after being shifted from the fasting venue few days back.

Heavy police bandobust was arranged at the hospital to prevent any untoward incidents.

Meanwhile, reports said the Congress workers under the leadership of former congress minister Mandali Buddha Prasad blocked the NH-5 resulting in vehicular traffic coming to a halt. He was reportedly arrested by the police.

The reports also said MP Supporters and congress leaders were staging rasta roko on the National Highways in the city in protest against the shifting of Mr Rajagopal.
