Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), the country’s apex body for plumbing professionals, has opened its new chapter in Visakhapatnam.
Inaugurating the IPA 13th chapter and second in Andhra Pradesh here on Thursday evening, Dr Hari Babu, MP, spoke about his vision for his constituency with energy-efficient systems of construction and good plumbing. “Every single person has a right to safe drinking water and sanitation. There’s an urgent need for good plumbing in the urban scenario like Visakhapatnam, which is the largest city in the State and the financial and industrial hub of Andhra Pradesh,” Dr Hari Babu said, adding his aim was to install solar rooftop systems in seven lakh homes under the slogan ‘Let us generate’ for accomplishing it’.
Andhra University Vice Chancellor Prof G S N Raju has stressed the need for skill development in plumbing. “Women, too, should be trained in the plumbing trade,” Prof. Raju added. IPA president Sudhakaran Nair said the country was struggling under a dearth of experienced plumbing professionals. Leela Prasad, a plumbing engineering consultant, was elected Chairman and Dr K Kumara Raja was elected as Secretary of the Vizag chapter.
