MP: Debt-ridden farmer commits suicide in Betul

Betul : A debt-ridden farmer on Friday allegedly committed suicide by consuming insecticide in Betul’s Chakora village of Madhya Pradesh.

The farmer named Panju Kumre was under debts of Rs two lakh, which he was unable to pay back.

The bank officers were continuously pressurising him to pay back the loan, which drove him to take the drastic step.

Earlier on October 4, a farmer in Madhya Pradesh’s Morena had allegedly committed suicide by consuming poison.

The farmer identified as Rakesh Dhakad was under heavy debts, following which he took this step.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan recently met with State-Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) to discuss the farmers’ issues.

Chouhan had said that the farmers should be provided with easy cashless transaction options, and that they should be made aware of various state and Centre schemes meant for farmers. (ANI)
