Rajgarh: BJP corporator and 14 others have been charged for the communal clash that broke out on Sunday on the Republic Day in Madhya Pradesh’s Khujner town, said police officer.
According to the sources, two different communities clashed at the Republic function following which the district administration had imposed prohibitory orders under sections CrPC 144 restricting assembly of five or more people in the area.
The police have so far arrested 5 of the suspects involved in the clash.
Meanwhile, most of the shops remained closed in the town and additional police force was deployed to prevent any further flare-up, the officer said.
Police inspector Ramkumar Raghuvanshi said the situation in Khujner was under control with both the groups filing cross-complaints based on which two separate FIRs have been filed.
15 people from both the communities, including BJP corporator Kamal Yadav, were charged and five of them were arrested, Mr Raghuvanshi said.
All the 15 members named in the FIR have been charged under IPC sections related to rioting, armed with deadly weapon, voluntarily causing hurt, unlawful assembly and criminal intimidation, among others, Raghuvanshi said.
