Moving and multicultural evening

Hyderabad: Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival has been known to feature international artistes with various genres of theatre ranging from Ireland, France, Germany, South Africa, Kenya, and others. This year, Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival 2019 brought acclaimed Argentinean TV and theatre actress Anahi Martella to showcase ’74 Days of Autumn’, a play brilliantly written by Laura Garaglia. The play was in Spanish, with English supertitles and projections of images of the desolation of the Falklands War, which took place between Great Britain and Argentina in 1982.Anahi, clad in a white outfit, swiftly moved between 4 different perspectives of war: a young, terrified soldier, a soldier’s little sister who writes letters to her brother, a headmistress of a school and the voice of earth/the motherland. The haunting script was matched by Anahi’s equal ease with switching between the headmistress’ primness, the soldier’s fear and the little sister’s innocent pain. The audience was awestruck by the pathos of the play, whose message was about the futility of war. Later, the playwright and actress duo mingled with the audience. The Ministry of External Affairs of Argentina has recognised the performance of ’74 Days of Autumn’ at 14th edition of Qadir Ali Baig Theatre Festival as a matter of cultural significance to Argentina.
