Moved by hardships of poor KCR building 2.33 lakh DBR houses for poor: KTR

Stating that he knows very well about horrible living conditions of the poor in the slums, Minister for Municipal Administration & Urban Development K.T. Rama Rao said construction of double bedroom houses for the poor was not just to provide them an asset, but also self-respect.

Speaking to mediapersons after laying foundation for 180 DBR houses at GY Reddy Compound in Bansilalpet area here on Saturday, KTR said the new housing units will boost the self-respect of unfortunate sections. The DBR houses, which will constructed at Rs 9 lakh each, are valued at Rs 45 lakh in the market. Stating that the State government has accorded permission for construction of 2.33 lakh houses in t he State, one lakh houses will be built in the Hyderabad alone. The KCR government will be spending Rs 18,000 crore.

Considering the plight and hardships of the poor, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao launched the unique two bed room housing scheme. Recalling that previous governments used to bulldoze houses of the poor and leave them to their fate, the TRS government was constructing 2.33 lakh double bedroom houses for the poor, he pointed out.

Reiterating the commitment of Telangana government for the welfare of poor, the Minister said the ‘KCR Kits’ scheme comprising 16 items, including baby powder, oil, diapers etc will be supplied from June 2. This apart, under the “Amma Vodi” scheme, the government will be extending financial aid of Rs.12,000 to pregnant women, he explained. Besides, the government was offering Rs 75,116 under  Kalyana Lakshmi and Shaadi Mubarak schemes, establishing 500 residential schools to impart English medium education to poor children, Rs 5 lakh insurance coverage for drivers working in the unorganized sector, he added.

KTR pointed out that all these welfare measures were taken up within three years by the TRS Government, while the previous governments, which ruled the State for decades never bothered about the welfare of the poor and criminally neglected them. He pointed out that Congress leaders visit slums only when elections were around to seek votes and disappear in thin air till next elections.

Talasani Srinivas Yadav,  Minister has appealed all the beneficiaries to personally monitor the construction works regularly and given directions not to pay any amount to the mediators etc.,  Jeevan Reddy, MLA , K. Hemalatha , Dr.B. Janardhan Reddy, Commissioner, GHMC, Ms. Prashanthi, Joint Collector Hyderabad District and senior officials various Government heads of Departments have participated in the program. (NSS)
