Hyderabad, February 22: There is no doubt that calling for prayer in a mosque and doing service to mosque is a matter of great reward but it is also a bitter fact that in modern days the servants of Allah who are busy serving the mosques and the callers to namaz who with their call of Allahu Akbar invite Muslims towards Allah’s house are living a very miserable life today. This is a dark aspect of the Muslim society with regard to religious obligations.
When Siasat correspondent tried to get information about the responsibilities of the Mouzins and the remuneration they get for them by contacting Mouzins from various mosques of the city, many thought provoking painful aspects came to the fore.
Today we spend lakhs of rupees for renovation and decoration of mosques but we don’t pay attention to the living creature which is an important part of any mosque.
Most of the mouzins not only have to call for prayer but they have to do other duties like cleaning the mosque, cleaning the ablution place, maintenance of water taps and motors, opening and closing them on time, repairing of mikes and the most difficult task of collecting funds and giving the account. The insulting behaviour of president, secretary and other committee members adds to their woes. After doing all these, the remuneration paid in the name of salary to them comprises of two to three thousand which is not at all adequate for them in this age of rising prices.
