Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has said that the educational institutions should maintain standards and prepare the students in tune with the requirement of job market.
Inaugurating Malla Reddy Institute of Medical Sciences at Suraram crossroads in Qutbullapur mandal of Ranga Reddy district here, Kiran Kumar Reddy said that his government was paying Rs 3,500 crores of scholarships and tuition free reimbursement for 25 lakh SC, ST, BC Minority and EBC students. Teaching should be like moulding the students for good jobs and improve employability. Though the government was paying Rs 1,700 crores to Engineering colleges, the pass percentage was between 25 and 30, he regretted.
From 2008 to 2011-12, a total Rs 5,300 crores of scholarships, tuition fee reimbursement and arrears were paid. The arrears of welfare schemes since 2007-08 Rs 8,000 crores were also cleared. Giving more priority to welfare, new schemes were also launched, he added.
“I am a sportsperson. I will be ready to directly face anything with sportsman spirit. Winning in sports will give pleasure, defeat gives rise to thinking how to win tomorrow. The youth will be ready for it” the Chief Minister said.
Stating that the State had highest number of medical seats in the country, Kiran Kumar Reddy pointed out that there were 5,600 medical seats in the State. The students from the State were also getting 25 per cent of seats in BITS Pilani and IITs. The State Government was also giving utmost priority for girls’ education. A GO has been issued making the period of physical education mandatory in the schools to instill confidence in the students and their fitness. The funds allocation was also increased to Rs 220 crores from Rs 20 crores in the budget. In the coming three or four years, multi-sports cum cultural complexes would be constructed in every mandal, he added.
Minister for Medical Education, 108 and 104 Services, Kondru Murali said that two new medical colleges would come up in the State next year. After Kiran Kumar Reddy assumed charge as Chief Minister, 700 additional medical seats were given to the State. The Government was now spending Rs 1,350 crores per year under Rajiv Arogya Sree and it was only Rs 70 crores in 2007. So far, 15 lakhs surgeries were performed under Rajiv Aarogyasree. The Government was releasing funds to the Health department through green channel and Rs 350 crores were allocated for medicines and Rs 70 crores for medical colleges, he added.
