Thodupuzha: A minor boy is battling for this life after he was left with a cracked skull while protecting his younger brother from his mother’s paramour in Kerala.
The seven-year-old’s head is believed to be have been smashed on to the ground and probably even hit harder using a stick by his mother’s paramour on Thursday in a bid to save his younger brother from being beaten up.
Though the minor was immediately rushed to the emergency ward and had also undergone surgery at the private medical hospital at Kolenchery in Ernakulam district, his condition continues to be serious.
“His life is sustained completely on ventilator support now. The next 48 hours is critical… As per the latest scan report, the blood circulation to the brain seems to have stopped,” the doctor said.
“He sustained skull fracture, internal bleeding and lung injury. The child also had cuts and bruises all over the body,” he further added.
The hospital staff alerted the police and child helpline authorities and shifted the victim to the hospital in Ernakulam for emergency surgery.
Not only was the victim was injured but also his younger brother aged 4-year-old also sustained injuries all over his body.
The Police has recorded statement from the younger brother and further details will be known after the mother and her partner a 36-year-old man hailing from Thiruvananthapuram sources said.
“The accused is under our surveillance. His arrest will be recorded soon,” the police official said.
The accused was booked under various sections of IPC, including 303 (attempt to murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and Section 75 of the Juvenlie Justice Act.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has also sought an immediate report on the matter.
Meanwhile the Health Minister K K Shylaja said the government shall bear the treatment expenses of the child.
“Stringent action will be taken against those engaged in cruelty to children. The covering up of assaults against children is also a grave crime,” the minister said in a statement.
