New Delhi, July 24: The death of a five-month-old boy, allegedly at the hands of his own mother, at the Motia Khan Area LIG flats in Paharganj has shocked both residents and police. What has caused concern is the allegation that the woman, 36, had made her way up to the terrace of three-storied building with the child, who was later found dead inside a water tank.
Eyewitnesses said the woman had thrown the child into the water tank before trying to perform some kind of black magic ritual – a claim the police have dismissed. The cops are not sure how the incident, which took place around 8.30pm on Friday, occurred. Initial investigations suggest the child might have slipped out of the woman’s hands and fallen into the tank. The police, who have questioned the incoherent woman, is yet to register a case.
“We have not been able to identify the woman. The only thing that she has repeatedly claimed is the child is her own. We are going to consult a doctor and opt for a DNA test to ascertain if she is the child’s mother. We have sent the woman to IBHAS at Dishad Garden where she will undergo treatment for mental illness,” said DCP (central) Vivek Kishore.
