Mosul, February 16: A car bomb attack has targeted a police forensics office in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, killing two officers and wounding nine other others.
The explosion happened at 7:30 a.m. (0430 GMT) on Tuesday when an explosive-laden car parked next to a police laboratory went off.
A doctor at Mosul’s Medical City hospital said they received two dead bodies and nine wounded, four of whom were seriously hurt.
Among the dead was police Captain Ahmed al-Juburi, while another five policemen were wounded in the attack, AFP quoted police and medical officials as saying.
Different Iraqi cities remain a scene of regular bombings years after the US-led invasion in 2003 left the gate open for Wahhabi extremists and al-Qaeda-linked militants to claim strongholds across the war-torn country.
