Panaji, May 07: Shambu Beck, 25, leader of the Maowadi Trishul Manch (MTM) was arrested in Goa late on Thursday, SP Crime A Deshpande said. Seventeen other persons have also been detained for questioning.
Beck is wanted by the Orissa police for murder, dacoity, arms dealing and kidnapping for ransom. Teams of the Goa crime branch and ANC swooped down on the MTM leader in Mapusa, 12 km from Panaji, after a week-long hunt to track him down.
“We had specific information from the Sundargarh police that Beck had most likely taken shelter in Goa. Our teams were keeping a watch on the movements of some of his associates for some days. We managed to nab him in less than a week,” said Deshpande.
A team from the Orissa police have arrived in Goa to take Beck’s custody. The Goa police have also detained 17 other persons, all of whom were working in Goa industrial estates.
