Eager to cast their vote, about 69 per cent of the people residing in the national capital have scrapped plans to take advantage of holidays next week and head out of town, according to an Assocham survey.
Most offices are likely to be closed on Tuesday, April 8, due to Ram Navami, and on Thursday, April 10, when polling is scheduled in Delhi. By taking leave on two days — Wednesday and Friday — many office-goers can get six straight days of holidays, including the weekend.
“Those days have gone when election day was treated as a day of leisure. Delhiites who love to escape the capital for a short trip would not like to skip their voting plans as they are more enthusiastic about the political process,” Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat said.
The survey of 3,800 Delhiites between the ages of 18 and 55 found that almost seven in 10 respondents said political engagement is an effective solution to the nation’s problems. Most respondents also highlighted corruption as their top concern, followed by the state of the economy.
Almost 78 per cent of the respondents cited corruption, price rise and women’s safety as the issues worrying them the most, besides the current economic situation and lack of job safety.
