Mosque row: Muslim families threaten to leave village

Yamunanagar, September 12: The ongoing tussle between two communities in a village of Yamunanagar took a new twist on Saturday as families of a minority community threaten to leave the village.

In a fix, the district administration is working to broker peace between them by constituting a committee comprised members of all the communities in the village and government officials. The issue relates to construction of a mosque in the residential area of village namberdar. The Muslim families in the village had proposed to build a mosque in the residential area, which was proposed by the majority Hindu families.

They argued that they had no objection over construction of a mosque but it should be outside the residential area as was the case with religious places of all communities, which were outside the village periphery.

The tussle was going on for around a week, but on Friday night some Muslims threatened to leave the village. Dilsad and Subedin, representative of the community, said “We have to keep awake throughout night to keep vigil fearing attack from miscreants. We do not want to blame the entire community but some anti-social elements have been threatening us.” On the other hand, village nambardar Sohan Singh, said “We have only appealed that mosque be built outside the village as our temple too are outside the village periphery.”

DC Ashok Sangwan said, “We are trying our best to resolve the issue. Meetings are going on and we will soon find out a solution.”
