Mortal remains of Koneru Ranga Rao laid to rest

Vijayawada (AP), March 16: The mortal remains of former Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and senior Congress leader Koneru Ranga Rao were laid to rest at his native village near here today.

Ranga Rao’s body was buried as per Christian traditions at his Gudavalli village after a large number of his supporters and political leaders paid homage.

Congress Rajya Sabha member K Keshav Rao, Vijayawada MP L Rajagopal, ministers D Manikya Vara Prasad, K Partha Sarathi and several others leaders were present.

Rao’s body was earlier taken to the village from Hyderabad, where he died yesterday after brief illness.

Rao (75), a prominent Dalit leader from coastal Andhra region, was admitted to a private hospital in Hyderabad following a respiratory illness about 10 days ago.

A three-time MLA, he had served as a minister having portfolios like Home, Municipal Administration and Social Welfare.
