New Delhi : Delhi Daredevils all-rounder Chris Morris has described his blistering knock against Gujarat Lions as his ‘best innings in T20 cricket’ but said that it was disappointing to lose despite coming agonisingly close to victory.
Chasing a target of 173, Daredevils fell one run short of the victory margin despite Morris’ heroics at Feroz Shah Kotla stadium in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Daredevils struggled against a disciplined swing bowling initially as they were reeling at 57 for four in the 11th over before Morris and compatriot JP Duminy (48) lifted the innings as the duo struck a 87-run partnership for the fourth wicket.
“It probably was my best innings in T20 cricket. I could have missed a straight one first ball and looked like an absolute idiot but it was just one of those days for me when I got going from ball one. It was upsetting we lost but tomorrow sun will again come up,” said Morris, who smacked eight sixes and four fours in his unbeaten 82-run knock off 32 balls.
Gujarat then made a sensational comeback, thanks to a steady penultimate over by Praveen Kumar as Delhi needed 14 off the last over. Dwayne Bravo held his nerve in the last over as he bowled from around the stumps to deny Morris’ sublime innings the status of match-winning.
Morris, who also bagged two wickets earlier, said that there was an enormous pressure on him while adding that he was fortunate that he was able to hit balls clinically.
“There was a lot of pressure. We needed 13 an over when I came in. It was quite obvious what we needed to do. I just played my natural game. If the ball is in my zone, I will have a go at it even if we needed five an over. That is just the way I play my game. Luckily it worked today,” the all-rounder added.
With the win, Gujarat topped the points table while Delhi are third after playing five games. (ANI)
