Hyderabad: September 23: The Energy Department on Thursday appealed to the general public to conserve power, especially in view of shortage due to the on-going general strike in the Telangana region.
According to energy department, present scarcity of coal and gas due to non-availability, transport problems and subsequent decrease in inflows into the reservoirs has led to severe shortage of power to the extent of around 12.6 MU per day. The department said that was inevitable to impose load shedding to ensure grid stability due to shortage.
The present power demand in the State was 258.4 MU, the A.P. utilities have supplied 245.8 MU with a deficit of 12.6 MU. APGENCO thermal units have supplied 81.37 MU to the grid with the Hydel generation of 48.38 MU. The Hydel inflows into Srisailam are around 28,700 cusecs and generation is being done limiting to 50,000 cusecs from Srisailam. Around 24 MU has been generated at Srisailam, whereas, 11 MU has been generated at Nagarjuna Sagar.
APGENCO is trying to supplement Coal by getting additional rakes from Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd. (MCL) and Western Coalfields Ltd. (WCL) and they are also procuring 1 lakh MT of imported Coal. All together around 1165 MW of power has been tied up for purchase of power from Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kerala, Haryana, etc by way of banking/purchases, to meet the requirements of the consumers of the State.
Therefore, the energy department says that conservation of power would help fight the on-going crisis. The department has also issued a long list of Do’s and Don’ts for the consumers in order to conserve electricity.
