Hyderabad, November 16: In the democratic country India all citizens belonging to various religions and castes possess equal rights. But Muslims the second largest majority of India is badly neglected in some affairs, the one among such issues is the holidays declared on the occasion of the ‘Eidain’ the two Eids.
In India public holidays are declared on national festivals such as Republic Day, Independence Day and the like.
Of the total public holidays the holidays declared on the occasions of festivals of majority community are the maximum, while there are only 4 holidays declared on the occasion of Muslim festivals which include Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, Eid Milad-un-Nabi (PBUH) and the one at yaum-e-Ashura. In contrast to that public holidays declared on the occasions of festivals belonging to majority community include Dewali, Dassehra, Bonal, Ram Naumi, Hanuman Jayanti, Budha purnima, Rakhsha bandhan, Janamashthami, Ganesh nimarjan and so on.
In addition to that holidays are given for 10 days on the occasion of Dassehra and for atleast 3 days on the occasion of Dewali while schools are kept closed for almost 5 days on the occasion of Christmas, where as Muslims who celebrate the two major Islamic festivals with great fervour and enthusiasm, they are being disenchanted by declaring just one day holiday on the occasions of their two great festivals. State government should declare atleast three days holidays on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr as well as Eid-ul-Azha so that Muslims can celebrate their festivals with much fervour and enthusiasm.
