More girls found abandoned in AP districts

The issue of child abandonment has once again came in front again , when a three-month-old girl was abandoned on the Nanded-Hyderabad train on Thursday .

Over the past five years, more female children (120 per cent) were found to be abandoned when compared to their male counterparts. The statistic also includes the number of children who had been willingly surrendered by their parents or guardians.

Male children are often abandoned if they suffer from physical or mental disabilities, where as the thought that a a girl child harm the reputation of the parents has led to their abandonment, according to officials of the women development and child welfare departments of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Children who be ill with from various disorders and diseases like HIV, TB and others are sort out as children with special needs.

K Rajyalakshmi, Regiona Deputy Director of the women and child welfare department of Hyderabad said. “As of now, we have 87 children under the special needs category. They are provided with necessary medical treatment and cannot be given for adoption, she added.
