Christchurch, March 03: Firefighters from flood and cyclone-affected communities in Queensland will be among a second contingent of rescuers headed to earthquake-devastated Christchurch today.
The Queensland Government says the team of firefighters and paramedics will help with search and recovery efforts.
Queensland’s Fire Commissioner Lee Johnson said among the team are firefighters from flood or cyclone-affected communities.
“These are firefighters who have seen their own communities ravaged by floods and cyclones and yet they are keen and enthusiastic to use their highly specialised skills and experience to help in New Zealand,” Mr Johnson said.
A team of 70 Queensland urban search and rescue officers already on the ground is due to return to Brisbane on Saturday.
