Mopidevi should also get legal aid:Botsa

PCC Chief Botsa Satyanarayana has said that the government, which has extended legal aid to five ministers, should also extend the same to the jailed former minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana.

Speaking to the media here on Sunday, he said that he would write to the Chief Minister asking him to provide legal aid to him also.

It may be mentioned here that the Supreme Court had issued notices to six ministers for issuing 26 controversial GOs. Of the six, the government has decided to provide legal aid to ministers Sabita Indra Reddy, Dharmana Prasada Rao, Geeta Reddy and Kanna Lakshmi Narayana. Mopidevi was not provided legal aid as he was already arrested by the CBI in connection with the Vanpic scam. However, when the startled IT minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah has enquired why he was not provided legal aid, it became known that the letter he had written to the Chief Minister has disappeared. CMO has said that they had not received the letter at all.

The government has decided to provide legal aid to him also after he submitted a fresh letter. But due to legal problems, Mopidevi was left out. Botsa said that Mopidevi also deserved legal help as he was also a minister at the time of his arrest.
