Varanasi (UP), February 17: Six people died and 12 fell ill and hospitalised after consuming spurious liquor in the district, police said today.
Eighteen people fell ill soon after drinking the illicit brew in Soyepur, Hazipur and Benipur villages last night, IGP Gurudharshan Singh told PTI.
They were rushed to various hospitals where six, one of them a 65-year-old man, died, he said.
Twelve were still in hospitals where the condition of one of them was stated to critical.
Three policemen had been suspended in connection with hooch deaths.
