Monsoons to hit Central India in June says German Research Institute

New Delhi: Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, a German Research Institute on Monday, forecasted monsoon arrival in Central India and the Eastern Ghats between June 14 to 22.

Basing on their early forecast method the scientist at the institute have claimed that this year monsoons will arrive in India on 18 June with an error margin of four days. There’s a 73% probability in the forecast.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) is yet to forecast the onset of the monsoons in the country as its forecast is based on the monsoon arrival on the Kerala coast.

‘The long-range forecast of the onset and withdrawal dates of monsoon rainfall is critical for taking appropriate decisions at various levels, from farmer’s field to the central government’.

Elena Surovyatkina, team leader from Potsdam Institue said, “When to plough and seed and how to manage water resources and design food procurement policies depends on the monsoon in India. Our efforts complement the forecasts made by the Indian authorities”

Recently since a year, this German Institue has been forecasting the arrival of the monsoons using its own weather model, as reported in Dailyhunt.
