Police arrested a money lender and a broker for torturing a married woman to either sleep with them or sell her kidneys to repay the money her husband owed. Police registered cases against them under the Nirbhaya Act.
This stunning incident occurred in Guntur hardly on the heels of an incident where a couple committed suicide in Tenali when a money lender tortured a to send his wife to sleep with him, to right off the money he owed.
In Guntur, one Mani borrowed Rs. 30,000 from money lender Ghouse, through broker Prasad, for his business needs. He failed to repay it. Then the lender and the broker started pressurizing Mani to send his wife to them. Unable to bear the torture, Mani deserted his family (wife and two children) and ran away.
After that the lender and the broker started torturing Rani, Mani’s wife to either sleep with them of sell her kidneys to repay the debt.
The hapless woman approached the Urban SP Ravi Krishna and complained to him about the tormentors. The SP immediately got Ghouse and broker Prasad arrested and booked them under the Nirbhaya Act. After being informed that the torturers were arrested, Mani returned to his family.
SP Ravi Krishna told the media that some money lenders were giving money under a scheme called Meter Lending and torturing the poor borrowers. He said he had set up a task force to control these lenders.
