Moment of madness rips apart a happy family

Mumbai, January 12: RAJIV Jolly Wilson’s family was inconsolable as it arrived at the Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital on Tuesday to claim his body.

But the one person who seemed singularly unaffected by the wails was Wilson’s four-year-old son, whose innocent mind was unable to grasp the fact that never again would he play in his father’s lap.

The child sat smiling serenely outside the mortuary where his father’s body had been brought in for medico-legal formalities. The rest of the family, however, was gutted. “He had bought the car to ease my life. I never knew it would become the cause of his death,” Wilson’s mother said.

“The world has become meaningless for me. I don’t believe it was an accident,” was what the victim’s wife said. The grief of Wilson’s father seemed to be beyond tears.

“The worst day in the life of a father is when he has to shoulder the burden of his dead son,” he said. Wilson’s body will be kept in the mortuary for medico-legal procedures. An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday.

A kin said the family — residents of Dwarka’s Sector 14 — will make an official statement after performing Wilson’s final rites.
