Bangalore, February 15: A day after parts of Kolar and his Lok Sabha constituency Chikkaballapur witnessed violent protests over supply of drinking water, Union Law Minister Veeerappa Moily today wrote a letter to the Karnataka government appealing for immediate action.
In letters to Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa, Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai and others, he said that the government sink borewells on priority to solve the drinking water problem.
Kolar, Bangalore Rural and Chikkaballapur faced severe drinking water scarcity, he said and wanted the government to take up ‘Yettinahole Water Supply Scheme’ as early as possible.
The scheme envisages supply of piped water supply from Yettinahole river in Sakaleshpur in Hassan district to Chikkaballapur, Bangalore Rural and also to Yelahanka in Bangalore City, he said.
Moily has appealed to Yeddyurappa to include the scheme in the upcoming budget.
