Mr. Mohammad Sayeed, president, Association for Service to Humanity was conferred with an Honorary Doctorate in “Social Concern with specialization in concern for the neglected”. Dr. Edwin Daniel presented him the doctorate on the occasion of National Convention of India Virtual University (IVU) on ‘online education’ at Bharathi Vidya Bhavan here on January 25.
Mr. Sayeed was recognised for his work in the field of prison counselling, educational mentoring and free distribution of homeopathic medicine for ‘chikungunya’ and ‘dengue fever’. This was an initiative taken by IVU’s, Director, John Leslie Kumar.
This convention had a panel discussion on the topic, ‘Living in the flat world’, a statement by Nandan Nilekani who is an author of ‘India shining and can we acquire peace through education’. The discussion gave a new dimension to learning through electronic media with the help of internet.
R.Vijaya Saraswathy, registrar, IVU, said “online Universities are here to stay and it makes education available for anyone, anytime & anywhere breaking all barriers of geography, economy and sociology status”
