A private tutor has attempted to sodomise a 12-year-old boy in Mohali, police said on Monday.
The boy, living in Phase 9, Mohali, was going for private coaching to Gurdeep Singh living in the neighbourhood. He was trying to avoid classes for the last few days. However, his family insisted that he keep up with his studies and sent him for tuitions on Monday.
To their dismay, the boy returned soon after and said Gurdeep Singh had tried to molest him.
After a complaint was registered with the police by the child’s grandfather, the 12-year-old said he had fled from his tutor’s house after he attempted to sodomise him.
The police have arrested Gurdeep Singh, who belongs to Barnala.
A case has been registered against him under sections 377 (unnatural offences) read with 511 (attempt to commit a crime) of IPC and under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
“We have registered a case and medical examination is being done. The child told us that the teacher had tried to molest him earlier too after sending other kids home,” said Ramandeep Singh, DSP (city) Mohali.
