LONDON: England star Moeen Ali is once again in news for all the right reason.
The 30-year-old off-spinner and left-handed batsman, a strict Muslim and teetotaler, leave the team celebration because his religion does not allowed alcohol use and it is prohibited in Islam.
He did not want even a single bubble to come in contact with him when champagne is being sprayed around on the winners’ podium.
Ali received praises for his act from the community members.
When asked Ali if he feel as an outcast, he said, “The team understands I stay away from the champagne thing. Cooky said, ‘Make sure we take the picture first’ and then I moved out of the way. I don’t feel I miss out — it’s just spraying a bottle, not that exciting really! But we have a great laugh. I really enjoy being in the changing room,” he was quoted as saying by The Sun.
On Monday, English cricketers defeated the formidable South Africa by a margin of 3-1 for the first time since 1998.
