Gujarat Parivartan Party (GPP) chief and former chief minister Keshubhai Patel today alleged that the expenses incurred on Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s Sadbhavana Mission fasts were a financial fraud. Addressing a news conference here this evening, Mr Patel said the expense of crores of rupees was incurred during 34 Sadbhavana fasts in 26 districts. According to the prevalent financial system of the state, the expenses incurred in such a manner could not be debited either to contigency fund or the consolidated fund for the purpose. That’s why the Modi government was avoiding a clear reponse to the RTI queries filed by several individuals and organisations. Mr Patel, a sworn rival of Mr Modi, quit the BJP few days ago to form his own outfit, with an aim to form an effective third front during the next state assembly elections due later this year. UNI
