Modi warns MPs: Don’t cross ‘laxman rekha’ in speeches

Amid a massive standoff in Parliament over the conversion row and other controversial statements made by a section of BJP leaders, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday reportedly told the BJP MPs that their statements are hurting the party and government’s image and that no one should cross the Lakshman Rekha.

At the BJP parliamentary board meeting held this morning, PM Modi strictly advised BJP MPs not to cross ‘laxman rekha’ in their remarks and instead focus on development.

He also again issued a stern warning to MPs who have been coming late to Parliament or party meetings.

Today also, several MPs, including ministers, arrived late for the parliamentary board meeting.

As regards the warning relating to airing views, the PM’s advice came after Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti and Sakshi Maharaj’s controversial remarks put the party in the dock, both inside and outside Parliament.

While Niranjan Jyoti had used abusive words to describe opposition leaders while calling on voters in Delhi to vote for the party, Sakshi Maharaj, on the other hand, had called Nathuram Godse, who had killed Mahatma Gandhi, as a ‘patroit’.
