Modi seeks opposition’s support for demonetisation

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday sought the support of all political parties over his government’s demonetisation decision, in the way they had cooperated in the passage of the GST Bill in Parliament.

Modi also called for their support on the issue of holding simultaneous elections in the country, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar told reporters after the conclusion of an all-party meet.

“Prime Minister’s request is for cooperation, similar to what they did for GST (Bill). We are requesting them to cooperate in the crusade against corruption, black money and fake currency,” Kumar said.

He said that the Prime Minister also appealed to the political parties to use the Winter Session of Parliament for debate and discussions on issues of national interest and public welfare.

The Prime Minister also called for discussion on the state funding of elections and simultaneous polls, he added.
