Leader of Opposition in Telangana State Legislative Council Mohammed Ali Shabbir has strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS for questioning the role of Congress party in India’s freedom struggle.
Addressing the ‘Sadbhavana Run’ organized by senior Congress leader and former MP V. Hanumantha Rao on the occasion of birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on Saturday, Shabbir Ali said by questioning the role of Congress party, the Prime Minister and RSS have insulted the freedom fighters. He said it was the Congress party which led the war for independence. On the other side, the RSS leaders openly support British Rule. While Congress leaders sacrificed their lives, the Sangh activists did not shed a single drop of blood for the country. It is strange that the same RSS is now questioning the patriotism and contribution of Congress party for the country, he said.
Shabbir Ali said freedom fighters like Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekar Azad and Ashfaqullah Khan laid down their lives for country’s independence. Post-independence Mahatma Gandhi, Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi sacrificed their lives for country’s unity and integrity. “RSS, which did not host a national flag at its headquarters for over 60 years, is now questioning the patriotism of Congress leaders,” he said while demanding that the Prime Minister and RSS should tender an apology for their remarks.
Recalling the services of Rajiv Gandhi, Shabbir Ali said it was during Rajiv Gandhi’s regime that voting rights were given to people of 18 years age. “He introduced modern technology and encouraged computerisation. India’s growth and dominance in the IT sector today is due to the vision of Rajiv Gandhi. He also linked modern technology with agriculture thus created thousands of new jobs. Today every citizen is benefitting due to the policies introduced by late Rajiv Gandhi,” he said.
Shabbir Ali also congratulated VHR for organising “Sadbhavana Yatra” to promote communal harmony and peace.
The Congress leader also congratulated badminton player PV Sindhu for wining Silver Medal at Rio Olympics. He said that the Telugu girl Sindhu has made the entire country proud by becoming the first Indian woman in the history to win Olympic Silver Medal.
