Gandhinagar, April 14: Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi today released guidelines on ‘Management of Urban Flooding’, prepared by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
“Increasing urbanisation is leading to disasters like floods. Due to unplanned development, improper land use and increase in population, urban centres are facing flooding,” Modi said while inaugurating a three-day conference on Post-Earthquake Reconstruction–Lessons Learnt and Way Forward, at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University here.
He said that causes of urban flooding were different and therefore strategies to deal with them also needed to be problem-specific.
“Mitigating and preventing disaster in urban area is a major challenge for future government. NDMA has prepared guidelines for management of urban flooding which I am happy to launch in Gujarat today,” Modi said.
