Modi ready to fight poor monsoon

The importance of the ‘ lab to- land’ programme, which aims at informing beneficiaries at the grassroots about schemes introduced by the government, subjugated the discussion as Prime Minister Narendra Modi met four Union ministers at his residence on Friday.

The conference was held to prepare contingency plans for farmers as India heads towards a poor monsoon, and have a discussion about methods to minimise the impact of the consequent rise in prices of oilseeds, fruits, pulses, vegetables and other essential commodities.

Present were, Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti, Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ananth Kumar Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Ram Vilas Paswan and Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, along with the secretaries of their respective ministries.

The secretaries briefed the PM on each of the ministries plans to deal with the deficient monsoon forecast for India this year.

Modi emphasized on the need for effective implementation of the lab- to- land programme, and called for the use of information technology to make data available at the grassroots in real time, as said by top a source.
