Gandhinagar, December 12: ‘Centre announcement at Copenhagen will have major impact on development activities in states’
Chief Minister Narendra Modi has requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to involve all the state governments in the process of preparing any policy frame-work for reduction in carbon emissions, “since it will have a major impact not only on developmental activities, but also on the future of the Five-Year plans of the country”.
In a letter written to the PM on Friday, Modi expressed concern over the stand to be taken by India at the Copenhagen summit on climate change, and said the majority of the activities in relation to the carbon emission reduction are directly linked with state governments. Any announcement on the climate change policy will have a major impact on various development activities initiated by state governments.
In the letter, he said the country needs an integrated strategy on climate change which needs open discussion with state governments. Modi also urged the PM to make available to the states the analysis report prepared by the Planning Commission, based on which the Government of India is likely to make an announcement in Copenhagen.
