Farrukhabad (Uttar Pradesh): After being released from the Fatehgarh jail of Farrukhabad district of Uttar Pradesh, Congress MLA Ajay Rai on Monday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav of conspiring against him.
He said that both Prime Minister Modi and Singh are hand in glove in sending him to prison and vowed to ‘uproot’ them and take the battle to streets.
After seven-month imprisonment, Rai was released from jail earlier today.
Rai, MLA from Pindra assembly constituency, was arrested on October 6 last year for his alleged involvement in violence taken place during Anaya Pratikar Yatra on October 5. The Allahabad High Court had granted bail to him on April 12.
Rai, who had contested parliamentary election against Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi in 2014, was arrested from the Lal Bahadur Shastri International airport and sent to Fatehgarh jail. He was charged with unlawful assembly, dacoity, and obstruction of official work and also for destruction of public property. Subsequently, on October 13, 2015, he was detained under the National Security Act (NSA).
The High Court on March 29 had set aside his detention under the NSA.
Rai had allegedly taken part in ‘Ayaya Pratikar Yatra pratikar’ on October 5 that turned violent.
The yatra was carried out in protest against police lathicharge on saints and public during immersion of idols of Lord Ganesha on intervening night of September 22/23 at the Gowdolia crossing. (ANI)
