Patna, November 04: Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi today joined Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in allaying the fears of the landowners saying that their land would not be usurped by sharecroppers.
“Opposition parties including RJD, LJP and Congress are spreading the canard that the present NDA dispensation was out to usurp the land of upper castes in the name of implementing land reforms. I must say that nobody is going to lose his rights over the land of his forefathers,” Modi said here.
There is no law as such which could ensure that share croppers will have the right on the land which they have been tilling for past several years. “Even the Bihar Tenancy Act (1986) is silent over the issue,” Modi said.
He said that out of 1.40 crore acres of cultivable land in Bihar, small and marginal farmers constitute 92.
