According to the constitution of India, the State shall not discriminate against any citizen on grounds only of religion, race, caste, sex, place of birth or any of them .And the content of oath of PM goes like this “ I, , do swear in the name of God/solemnly affirm that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established, that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of India, that I will faithfully and conscientiously discharge my duties as prime minister for the Union and that I will do right to all manner of people in accordance with the Constitution and the law, without fear or favour, affection or ill-will”., which our current Prime Minister Mr Narendra Modi had read out the oath on 26th of May 2014 in the presence of the President when nation gave him mandate to rule the great country where plurality has been the pillar.
But the pillar seems to be crumbling under the present regime headed by Mr Modi who looks out to impose his Hindutva ideology clearly mocking the constitution of India.
Mr Modi recently addressed Dalits as “brothers “and his more staunch words for Dalits like “if you have to shoot, shoot me, but don’t shoot my Dalit brothers in the wake of incident of Dalit family being flogged at Una in Gujarat by ‘Gau Rakshak’ or Cow Vigilantism while at the same time more virulent attacks on Muslims, the very citizen of the same country India taking place every now and then by the hooligans in the name of cow protection but our PM gives deaf ears .He chose not to even express concern let alone take actions. He could have said “Dalits and Muslim brothers” but he didn’t.
The world knows that the statement on Dalits by our PM had political connotations and not his real love for them as crucial UP assembly election of UP is round the corner. With his statement he wanted to kill two birds with one stone, One he did not want to lose Dalit vote, two he could not like Muslims and Dalits getting united.
Modi’s silence on lynching of Mohammad Akhlaque in Dadri, two Muslims hanged to death in Daltonganj, Jharkhand, two Muslim women assaulted in Cow vigilantism at Mandsaur in MP,the recent unrest in Kashmir and killing of its own people by security forces, attacks of places of worship of minorities in many parts of the country lead even an average person to conclude that the brunt born are none other than Muslims, yes Muslims who are not BJP voters and every now and then people of his party call for Muslims ‘mukt’ India as they do not fit in the design of Hindu rashtra which is a long cherished wish of RSS.
In fact Modi’s dislikes for Muslims are not new. Looking back at some of his statements like in Dec 2012, while campaigning for Gujarat Assembly election, he used to say that Congress is planning secretly to make Ahmad Patel as Chief Minister. He addressed Ahmad Patel as Ahmad “miyan” to emphasise his religion in a disdainful manner to the people of Gujarat and tried to arouse fear that a Muslim may become the CM of Gujarat, At another occasion in 2002, he referred to the relief centre for Muslims as baby producing factories “hum paanch, hamare pachees”(we are five but we have twenty five) implying that Muslims are proliferating. And of course, the world infamous Godhra incident where Mr Modi’s role in the carnage is still debated.
Mr Modi hardly mentions Muslims for good or bad. He even skipped Iftaar Party hosted by the President and Sonia Gandhi.
With his latest statement aimed solely condemning those attacking Dalits and leaving Muslims in the same crime, Modi has clearly demonstrated yet again that the Sanghis vision of India does not include Indian Muslims.Rhetoric, hatred and violence against Muslims is therefore a non issue for him.
After all, he is the Prime Minister of the country and should concern himself with the welfare of each and every citizen.
The callous attitude of PM Narendra Modi towards the minorities leads one to think whether Mr Modi really is the PM of entire people of this great nation. (By Shahnawaz Ahmad)
